NCAA Accepted Entries
WAVERLY, Iowa -- Ryan Scott will take part in the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships for the second straight year as the sophomore speedster will represent Christopher Newport in the 100 during the title meet, which will be hosted by Wartburg at Walston-Hoover Stadium beginning on May 26.
Scott will begin his quest for national supremacy on Friday at 5:15 p.m. with the 100-meter prelims. The top-nine qualifiers will then take part in the finals on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
Entering the national championships, Scott is seeded 19th in the event after posting a season-best time of 10.68 during the Capital Athletic Conference championships last month. That clocking also ranks as the sixth-fastest time in CNU history.
Piecing together a spectacular sophomore season, Scott has been named to both the indoor and outdoor All-CAC teams while also collecting All-Region accolades for his efforts over the winter. So far this spring, he ranks second in the South / Southeast region in the 100 and 110-hurdles after placing in the top-three in both events during the conference meet.
Already familiar with the national championships, Scott was a member of the school's 4x100-relay last year, which placed 15th at the NCAA meet. That performance capped off an impressive freshman campaign that earned him CAC Outdoor Rookie of the Year plaudits after winning the league title in the 200-meters.
Scott is the first Captain to qualify for the national championships in the 100-meters since Leroy Harper, Jr. in 2009. Greg Boothe was the last sprinter to earn All-American honors in the event after placing sixth during the 1998 championships.
