AUSTIN, Texas -- Enuma Ezenwa has been named to the first-team Capital One Academic All-District Track & Field squad after piecing together a tremendous year both academically and athletically at Christopher Newport.
The senior was one of 12 honorees from District 5, which includes athletes from 11 states ranging from Missouri to Florida. In order to qualify for the honor, student-athletes must maintain at least a 3.3 cumulative grade point average and serve an integral role on their athletic team.
Ezenwa has been nothing short of sensational during her senior season. She was named the USTFCCCA South / Southeast Indoor Field Athlete of the Year following an impressive performance over the winter. During the indoor season, she set a new program record in the pentathlon while earning All-American honors after finishing fifth in the combined event during the NCAA Championships.
Along with her national honor, she was also an All-Conference selection after finishing second in the high jump and 4x400-relay during the CAC indoor title meet.
Transitioning to the outdoor season, she continued her record-setting run. Ezenwa broke her own program record in the heptathlon with 4,509 points. She was also named the CAC Women's Outdoor Track & Field Co-Athlete of the Year following a dominant performance during the conference championships.
During the league meet, she won both the 100- and 400-hurdles and placed second in the long jump. For those efforts, she was a first-team All-Conference pick.
Capping off her career in style, Ezenwa is currently competing at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Canton, New York. She qualified in the heptathlon, 100-hurdles, and 4x400-relay.
The Herndon, Virginia native received her degree in cellular, molecular, and physiological biology during CNU's commencement on May 9.
