Final ResultsWILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- On the final day of the Colonial Relays, the Christopher Newport track & field teams strung together several incredible efforts as the Captains set three school records, including a pair by the Distance Medley Relay units, on Saturday at Zable Stadium.
During the final day of the meet, the Captains broke records in the men's 4x1500 along with the men's and women's DMR. The women's foursome headlined the group by smashing the previous record by 57 seconds. During the distance medley,
Jessica McClelland,
Leah Richardson,
Logan Harrington, and
Briana Stewart combined to finish in 12:15.88. That placed them ninth overall and obliterated the old mark of 13:12.60 set during the 2001 campaign.
Not to be outdone, the men's DMR broke one of the oldest records in program history. During the event,
Samuel Martin,
Nick Hedrick,
Zachary Campbell, and
William Rabil finished 10th with a time of 10:20.20. That clocking bested the old mark of 10:23.8, which was set in 1986 - long before any of the current record breakers were born.
Rounding out the day, the men also established the program mark in the 4x1500. During the competition,
Daniel Richard,
Dylan Freeman,
John Bruner, and
John LaPointe placed 15th with a new-record time of 16:37.77.
Incredibly, the distance runners finished the weekend with four records. Along with the three relay times, McClelland also set a new standard in the women's 1500 on Friday.
In other relays on Saturday,
Daulton Teaford,
Troy Newcomer,
Robert Mayes, and Hedrick teamed up in the 1600 sprint relay and the 4x400. In the sprint, the foursome finished eighth with a time of 3:42.34. The group also placed 13th in the 4x400 after completing the event in 3:22.39.
On an individual level,
Jennifer Westerholm finished third in the women's unseeded triple jump with a distance of 11.07 meters.
Dominique Torres competed in the championship-level triple on the men's side and placed 12th with a 13.54-meter effort.
