NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Christopher Newport's volleyball team defeated NC Wesleyan 3-2 in thrilling fashion Tuesday night in the Freeman Center.
NC Wesleyan took the first game, by a score of 30-27, before the Captains roared back by taking game two, 30-15 and game three, 30-21. The Bishops however would force a fifth and deciding game by winning game four, 30-28. CNU captured the deciding fifth game, 15-8.
Ellen Koch led all players with 21 kills. She finished with 47 attempts and just two errors for a .404 hitting percentage. Koch also added 13 digs in the win. Liz Bush added 13 kills, Sarah Hunkele finished with 11 and Allie Wolf contributed 10 kills.
Christie Kirby added a game-high 29 digs and Mary Horner finished with 12. Brittany Collins had 36 assists and 12 digs and Ryann Lowery added 16 assists.
NC Wesleyan falls to 9-7 overall and 2-2 in USA South play. Christopher Newport improves to 8-5 overall and 4-0 in conference action. It was the seventh straight win for the Captains.
CNU returns to action Friday when they head to Fayetteville, NC for a USA South Tri-Match. The Captains take on Methodist at 1:30 pm and Greensboro at 3:30 pm.
