Volleyball Ties Record For Consecutive Wins, Sweeps Salisbury, 3-0

SALISBURY, MD – Christopher Newport's volleyball team tied a program record for consecutive wins Wednesday with 16 in a 3-0 sweep at Salisbury Wednesday night.

 

The win equaled the mark set in 1985 and again in 2002.

 

The Captains defeated the Sea Gulls by scores of 31-29, 30-15 and 31-29.

 

CNU trailed two or three points for the majority of the third game until the Sea Gulls went up 28-21. Ellen Koch went back to serve and helped her squad take the lead, 29-28. Salisbury tied the score at 29-29 and Allie Wolfe responded with a kill to put CNU back on top by one. Brittany Collins crushed an over-pass to give the Captains the win.

 

Wolfe paced Christopher Newport with 11 kills and 11 digs. Collins had 42 assists and 13 digs. Koch finished with nine kills, Liz Bush and Sarah Brown each had eight kills. Christie Kirby had 17 digs and Mary Horner finished with 16 digs.

 

The Captains are now 17-5 on the year. CNU returns to action next Wednesday as they host Mary Baldwin with start time set for 6:30 pm.
