NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Christopher Newport women's soccer team is back in action on Wednesday night as the Captains are poised to host Marymount University (2-4-0) at 5:00 p.m. in Newport News. CNU enters the mid-week matchup with a 4-1-2 overall record after an unbeaten trip to Georgia this weekend including a draw against nationally-ranked Emory and a win over Oglethorpe. 

Live stats and, weather permitting, a live video webcast will be available online at CNUsports.com. Admission is free of charge to CNU women's soccer games. Fans are advised the weather may impact the game's location -- a decision will be made on Captains Field playability on Wednesday with the potential for the 5:00 p.m. game being moved to Jennings Family Stadium, the turf field on campus at Christpoher Newport. 

Christopher Newport has been led by a dominant defense that has surrendered just three goals in seven games this season for a 0.43 goals-against average. Senior goalkeeper Amy Sidaway has played all 630 minutes this season while racking up four more wins to her career ledger. With her most recent victory between the pipes, Sidaway tied Carly Maglio (2014-17) for second all-time in career wins and trails only Haley Eiser (2018-21) for the all-time record of 54. 

Playing in front of Sidaway, senior Bella DiTommaso has paired with sophomores Malayah Warner and Nora Cook to hold opponents to just 9.3 shots per game. In the midfield, junior Avery Spell has started all seven games so far this season to help lock down the opposing attack. The quartet lead the team in field player minutes and are each averaging over 78 minutes played per game this season. 

Offensively, junior Ellie Diehl has scored a pair of goals, including one gamewinner, to lead the way with four points. This week's C2C Offensive Player of the Week was rookie Caelyn LaFlamme, who is tied with Grace Shifflett and Catie Borsuk for second on the team with three points on one goal and one assist. 

Marymount is coming off a 2-1 loss at Lynchburg on Saturday after winning two of the previous three games. Arianna Blanco leads the team with two goals while Khloe Hoda and Eleanor Keough has each added three points for the Saints. In goal, Mara Dufour has started all six games with one shutout and 84 shots faced this season. 

Following the Wednesday tilt, the Captains will head back out on the road for three straight starting with a matchup at Catholic University on September 30 at 5:00 p.m.
