The dominant offensive performance included a 24-3 advantage in total shots as Christopher Newport took 14 shots in the first half and added ten more in the second.
CNU took an early lead in the 10th minute of action when
Grace Shifflett ripped a shot off the crossbar that skipped right to the feet of
Ellie Diehl. Collecting the loose ball and quickly looking back toward the goalmouth, she lofted a high-arcing shot that snuck in the far pocket of the goal for the eventual game-winning strike.
The relentless attack continued as CNU pressured the Stockton goalkeeper with eight more shots over the next 20 minutes of play. The eighth would double the lead when
Brooke White recovered her own rebound off a shot that was blocked and then smashed home a second-chance opportunity with a rip off the left post and into the goal.
With a two-goal lead in hand, the Captains were able to coast to the victory as the defense locked up another shutout. Playing full time in the back were
Nora Cook,
Bella DiTommaso, and
Malayah Warner, while Sidaway secured another clean sheet. Her 37th career shutout ties the Captains' all-time leader for 27th all-time in Division III and her next shutout would see her climb into the top-20. The senior netminder snared three stops in the win for the Captains.
CNU will return to action on Friday night at No. 2 Emory University in Georgia. The Captains will also take on Oglethorpe University on Sunday, September 20 as part of the trip to the Peach State.
