Following Two Wins and a Save, Caroline Alger Named Softball Pitcher of the Week by C2C

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport University sophomore pitcher Caroline Alger was honored on Tuesday. Alger, from Staunton, Va., was selected the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference's Pitcher of the Week.

Alger pitched in three of four CNU games last week, and earned two victories and a save as CNU went 4-0 for the week. Alger allowed just two runs in 12.2 innings pitched, giving up seven hits and striking out nine while walking three. She won the opening game of a doubleheader last Wednesday at North Carolina Wesleyan, and then posted a save in the nightcap against the Bishops. Alger then improved her record to 4-0 on Sunday with a complete-game shutout over Roanoke at Captains Park, yielding just two hits to the Maroons.

This marks the second straight week Alger has received the honor, and the third time this season.

Keith Parr's team has a 24-10 record and the Captains have now won four straight games. Christopher Newport will travel to Fredericksburg, Va., on Saturday to take on the Eagles of the University of Mary Washington. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.

CNU returns home to conclude the regular season at Captains Park on Sunday, May 3rd, vs. Salisbury University. The opening game of two is scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. start. The Captains will then play in the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday, May 8th, with the site and opponent to be determined.
