NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport University received both weekly softball awards Monday from the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C). Junior
Brooke Zuber was selected the Player of the Week, and sophomore
Caroline Alger was named the Pitcher of the Week in the C2C.
Zuber, a junior from Lancaster, Pa., was five-for-seven for a .714 batting average for the Captains in a doubleheader split on Sunday at Meredith College. Zuber now leads the team with nine home runs and a team-high 36 runs batted in for the year after hitting a three-run blast in the nightcap. Zuber also posted three hits, including two doubles, in a 10-6 opening game CNU victory.
Alger, a sophomore from Staunton, Va., returned from an early-season injury on Sunday, and picked up the win in relief in game one of the twin bill at Meredith. Alger hurled the final five innings, yielding just two runs on three hits while striking out three and walking two. She upped her record on the year to 2-0 with the victory.
Christopher Newport has now won 12 weekly awards in the first eight weeks of the season from the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference. This marks the second time Alger has been named Pitcher of the Week this year, and comes after freshman pitcher

Simone Thompson, and
Candace Slaw as well as sophomore
Cora Thomas have all previously been honored by the league.
Keith Parr's squad now has a record of 20-10, and will play on the road again Wednesday in Rocky Mount, N.C. CNU will take on the Battling Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan University in a doubleheader that is set to begin at 2:30 p.m.
