NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport University freshman pitcher
Cora Grace Sparger has had quite a month for the Captains. Sparger, from Salem, Va., was named the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference's Pitcher of the Week on Monday for the fourth straight week.
Sparger saw action in three games this past week for the Captains, posting a complete game victory at home over the University of Lynchburg on Saturday. The win improved her record to 11-4 for the season.
Christopher Newport has now won ten weekly awards in the first seven weeks of the season from the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference. In addition to Sparger's four Pitcher of the Week accolades, junior
Haylee Callahan and sophomore
Caroline Alger have also received the honor. Four different Captains have also been cited as the Player of the Week so far this season. Juniors
Natalie Quinlan,
Simone Thompson, and
Candace Slaw as well as sophomore
Cora Thomas have all been honored by the league.
The Captains are now 19-9 on the season, and Ketih Parr's squad will return to action this Sunday, April 12th, at Meredith College in Raleigh, N.C. The doubleheader is set to start at 2:30 p.m.
