NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -Â Christopher Newport University freshman lefthander
Cora Grace Sparger was honored for the third straight week on Monday by the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C). Sparger was again named the Pitcher of the Week in the conference.
Sparger was 2-0 this week in her two starts on the road with wins on Thursday at Averett and Sunday at York (Pa.). The Salem, Va., native and graduate of Salem High School upped her season's record to 10-3 with the pair of victories.
Keith Parr's squad, ranked 16th in the country last week, is now 17-7 after splitting a pair of games Sunday at York College (Pa.). The Captains hit three home runs on Sunday, two by
Kimberly Jones and one by
Simone Thompson, and are now fourth in the country in home runs per game (1.38).
Natalie Quinlan and
Brooke Zuber lead the squad with six homers each.
The Captains will see action next when they play a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon at Bridgewater College. The first pitch is set for 2:30 p.m. Christopher Newport then returns home on Saturday to host the University of Lynchburg in a doubleheader at Captains Park. First pitch on Saturday is set for 2:00 p.m.
