NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport University returns home on Saturday as the Captains host the University of Lynchburg in a softball doubleheader at Captains Park. Game one is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
The Captains are 18-8 on the season, and coming off a split of two games on Wednesday at Bridgewater College. BC won the opener, 6-5, but the Captains bounced back to take the nightcap in five innings, 11-0. Lynchburg is 16-8 and riding a nine-game winning streak. The Eagles won both ends of a doubleheader last Sunday at Randolph by scores of 16-1 and 10-2.
The Captains and Lynchburg have met 65 times in the past, and CNU holds a 49-16 lead in the all-time series. CNU has won the last two and 11 of the last 12 games, winning twice last year at Lynchburg by scores of 2-0 and 7-0.

Candace Slaw, who tops the country in base hits with 49. Slaw has a batting average of .521 and also leads the Captains in runs scored with 33, doubles with nine, and stolen bases (24 on 25 attempts). Slaw, an All-American last season, was named to the watch list on Thursday for the 2026 NFCA Division III Player of the Year honor. A total of 118 student-athletes were included on the watch list, which was separated into the ten NCAA regions and compiled by the elected members of the NFCA Division III All-America Committee with one head coach representing each of the ten NCAA regions.
Christopher Newport is currently fifth in the country in home runs per game with 1.35. CNU has hit 35 home runs in the first 26 games , and junior
Brooke Zuber leads the way with eight.

The Captains will have an eight-day break following Saturday's doubleheader with Lynchburg. The Captains will return to action next Sunday, April 12th, at Meredith College, with the doubleheader set to start at 2:30 p.m. Christopher Newport will then play another road doubleheader at North Carolina Wesleyan University on Wednesday, April 15th, in Rocky Mount, N.C. The twin bill is also set to begin at 2:30 p.m. CNU returns home to Captains Park on Sunday, April 19th, vs. Roanoke University.. The opening game of two is scheduled for a 12:30 p.m. start.
