ALLIANCE, Ohio - Not long after the Christropher Newport University softball team defeated Mount Union Friday afternoon in the NCAA Tournament, 8-5, four members of the Captains learned they have been named All-Region by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).

Junior centerfielder Candace Slaw was named first team, and senior Isabel Hall, junior Natalie Quinlan, and sophomore Alexah Gordon were selected third team. The honor is the third straight first team selection for Slaw, who was a first team All-American selection last year as well by the NFCA. Friday's announcement marked the first All-Region honors for Hall, Quinlan, and Gordon.

The NFCA announced that 386 total student-athletes from 161 different schools comprise the 2026 NFCA Division III All-Region teams. The awards honor student-athletes from the Association's ten regions with selection to one of three teams. NFCA member head coaches nominate and then vote for the winners in their respective region. Coaches may nominate a maximum of eight players from their squad.

All honorees move forward to be considered for selection for the three NFCA Division III All-America squads, which will be announced May 27th on NFCA.org and the Association's social media accounts.

The quartet of Captains is preparing for the regional championship on Saturday at the University of Mount Union. The Captains have won their first two games in the double-elimination, four team regional.
