Captains Travel to Rocky Mount on Wednesday for Softball Doubleheader at N.C. Wesleyan

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -
Christopher Newport University travels to North Carolina on Wednesday, as the Captains will play a softball doubleheader at North Carolina Wesleyan University. The first pitch of he opener is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.

Keith Parr's squad is 20-10 on the year and coming off a split on Sunday at Meredith College in Raleigh, N.C. The Captains are 6-6 in their last dozen games, splitting six straight doubleheaders since March 22nd.

The Captains have two players hitting over the .500 mark. Senior Isabel Hall is batting .509 with 27 hits in 53 at bats this season. Junior Candace Slaw is batting .505 with 56 hits in 111 at bats, and now has 202 career hits as a Captain in just three seasons. She leads the nation right now with 56 base hits, and is just 21 hits shy of Sabrina Hill's all-time high of 223 career base hits. Hall is presently 23rd in the country,while Slaw is 29th in batting average.

Christopher Newport is third in the country this year in home runs per game, with 39 in 30 games for an average of 1.3 per game. Junior Brooke Zuber leads the squad with nine, and also tops the team with 36 runs batted in. 

The Battling Bishops of NCWU have a mark of 21-10-1 so far this season, and are coming off a sweep on Saturday at Brevard College in Brevard, N.C. The programs, longtime conference members of the Dixie and USA South Athletic Conference, have met 94 times in the past in a series that dates back to 1985. CNU holds a 69-25 edge, and the Captains have won the last 13 games. Last year on April 2nd at Captains Park, CNU won twice over the Bishops by scores of 10-1 and 7-1.

Following Wednesday's twin bill, the Captains return home on Sunday, hosting Roanoke College at 12:30 p.m. Prior to the doubleheader at Captains Park, CNU will hold Senior Day ceremonies beginning at approximately 12:15 p.m.
