NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport University softball returns to action on Sunday following an eight-day layoff. The Captains will play a doubleheader at Meredith College in Raleigh, N.C., with the first pitch of the twin bill set for 1:00 p.m.

Keith Parr's squad is 19-9 on the year, and the Captains last saw action on Saturday, April 4th, when they split a twin bill with the University of Lynchburg at Captains Park. The Avenging Angels of Meredith, meanwhile, have a mark of 18-12 after winning two games on Saturday at Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Va. The Angels also have a record of 11-1 so far in the USA South Athletic Conference.

CNU and Meredith have played 43 games in the past, and Christopher Newport holds a 40-3 lead in the all-time series. The Captains have won the last 19 games in the series, including two last year at Captains Park by scores of 18-1 and 8-0.

Links to the live video and live stats of Sunday's games are provided at the top of this story. Following Sunday's action, the Captains travel to Rocky Mount, N.C., on Wednesday for a doubleheader at North Carolina Wesleyan University. The action is set to begin at 2:30 p.m.

CNU returns home to play Roanoke College twice next Sunday, April 19th, with Senior Day ceremonies set to take place before the 12:30 p.m. first pitch.
