Brookelyn Morrison Celebrated as Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- After leading the Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team to a pair of victories last week, senior All-American Brookelyn Morrison was celebrated as the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, which was announced by the league office on Monday.

The weekly honor was the fourth of Morrison's career after she was previously recognized as the Defensive Player of the Week on March 25, 2024, April 7, 2025, and February 16, 2026. Her four defensive awards are tied for the most earned by any player in program history, equaling the total amassed by former legend Morgan Layton from 2008-11 in the USA South Athletic Conference.

In addition to her defensive honors, Morrison was also hailed as the league's Offensive Player of the Week on March 11, 2024. Overall, her five total weekly accolades are tied for the third-most in school history, trailing only perennial All-American Kelsey Winters (11) and CNU Hall of Famer Meaghan Galvin (8).

Starring on the defensive end during a pair of appearances last week, Morrison led the Captains with eight caused turnovers. She also slotted second on the squad with six ground balls and helped CNU dominate possession with seven draw controls.

Kicking off her award-winning stretch on Wednesday, Morrison collected three takeaways during a 17-9 triumph at Shenandoah. All three of her strips came in the first 33 minutes as the Captains fostered a slim lead before breaking the game open with a lethal seven-goal eruption in the fourth quarter.

Three days later, Morrison returned with a historic masterpiece against No. 6 York (Pa.) on Saturday. During a 13-12 win over the Spartans, the fourth-year phenom came through with five caused turnovers. That equaled the third-highest total against a nationally-ranked opponent in program history and the finest effort in a road game.

During an edge-of-your-seat thriller, Morrison notched four of her strips in the second half, including a crucial stop at the end of the fourth quarter. With the Spartans rallying back in the waning moments of regulation, she shut down a surge with 70 seconds left on the clock after stopping a pair of charges from the top of the zone. Eventually, she stripped an attacker, forced a turnover, and helped lock up the one-goal victory.

As remarkable as her work was on the defensive end, Morrison was equally effective on the other side of the field during the two victories. During the week, she led Christopher Newport with 10 points after pocketing six goals and four assists. She had six points during the win at Shenandoah before collecting two strikes and a pair of helpers at York (Pa.). Her final goal of the week broke a 6-6 deadlock against the Spartans and handed the Captains a lead they would never relinquish.

Among her work on the offensive end, she converted both of her free-position attempts, which extended her streak to 12 consecutive eight-meter tallies dating back to last year. That broke the previous school standard of 11 straight conversions set by Galvin in 2016 and matched by former legend Catie Chess from 2017-18.

So far this season, Morrison ranks 11th in the NCAA with 28 caused turnovers. She also slots second on the team with 14 assists and third with 20 goals and 34 total points.

Morrison and the rest of her teammates will be back in action on Wednesday when CNU hosts Washington (Md.) at 4 p.m.
