NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Collecting her first career Player of the Week certificate, Christopher Newport sophomore
Kendal Chang was named the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week on Monday. Chang helped the 25th-ranked Captains to a 4-3 win over Grinnell College on Sunday with wins in both singles and doubles.
Chang is the second CNU player to earn Player of the Week recognition in 2025-26 after
Kylie Schaefer earned the honor on February 16.
This week, Chang paired with Schaefer for the lone doubles win against the Pioneers coming at No. 1. The CNU duo earned a 6-1 win against Paige Sargent and Isa Voinescu. Then, in singles actoin, the second-year star cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win against Pari Chavan at No. 1.
The win proved imperative as the Captains defeated Grinnell in a close match, 4-3, to improve to 3-5 on the season. Christopher Newport will return to action this week as they host the Natalie Pitts Memorial Invitational over four days at the Eyre Courts on campus.
CNU will first host No. 32 Whitman College at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 19 to open the event. On Friday, March 20, there will be three matches starting with 10:00 am battles between Whitman and No. 17 Kenyon on one set of courts and No. 13 Johns Hopkins versus No. 15 Tufts on another. At 2:00 p.m., CNU will face off against No. 18 Case Western Reserve.
The Invitational continues on Saturday with matches featuring Case Western against No. 20 Williams College, No. 35 Haverford taking on Whitman, Hopkins versus Kenyon, and CNU playing Tufts University. The final matches of the weekend will be played on Sunday with CWRU vs. JHU, Tufts vs. Haverford, and Kenyon vs. Williams on the docket.
