NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Playing on a beautiful fall Saturday at the Eyre Courts on campus at Christopher Newport, the women's tennis team closed out the fall portion of the 2026-27 season with matches against NCAA Division I N.C. Central University. 

CNU earned three singles victories and one in doubles action against the Division I foes. 

In pairs play, the Captains got another win from Anna Bong and Kendal Chang as the duo improved to 6-2 overall this fall with three wins over Division I opponents. They captured a 6-4 victory against Randy Rakotoarilala and Sarah Barbaric. 

Once the action moved into singles play, the Captains continued the strong showing. Kylie Schaefer responded from a first set loss to earn a 3-6, 6-4, 10-5 win against Barbaric. Bong also suffered a first set loss but bounced back for a 3-6, 6-3, 10-7 win against Journee Henderson. Finally, Chang rolled to a 6-4, 6-4 win against Rakotoarilala to round out the CNU wins on day two of the October Mock Invite. 

Christopher Newport will now take the majority of the winter off to prepare for the spring dual season which is set to begin on Saturday, February 6 against Longwood.
