PENN LAIRD, Va. --
Returning to action on Saturday morning, the Christopher Newport track & field teams will take part in the Shane Stevens Invitational, which will be hosted by Bridgewater College at the Rockingham Recreation Center in Penn Laird, Virginia.

As a result of the weather forecast for this weekend, Saturday's meet will begin at 9:15 a.m. The competition will also feature a condensed schedule with the final event slated to start at 12:25 p.m. For those fans unable to make the trip, live results will be available at BridgewaterEagles.com.

Currently, 66 Captains are scheduled to take part in the meet. Among those with the busiest slates, Bailey Billger, Sam Anania, and David Kayembe are entered in three disciplines apiece, while 34 others have two events on their docket.

Along with CNU, six other schools are slated to take part in Saturday's action.

Entering the weekend, six Captains are currently ranked in the top-50 nationally in at least one event. On the women's side, Ashley Eley is 11th in the triple jump (11.39 meters) and 50th in the high jump (1.59 meters), while Ellie Nuckols is 30th in the long jump (5.43 meters) and 36th in the 400 (58.82). In addition to the nationally-ranked performers, Sarah Bland is coming off of a historic appearance at the VMI Team Challenge last week. During the competition, she posted a pair of efforts that rank on the program's all-time top-10 charts. She climbed to seventh in school history in the 3000 with a time of 10:31.78 and vaulted to ninth in the mile with a 5:16.53 clocking.

Along with Bland, Hollington also jumped to seventh in CNU history in the 200 after throwing down a time of 26.12 in her collegiate debut.

After Saturday, Christopher Newport will return to action next weekend with a pair of meets. The Captains will take part in the Virginia Wesleyan Invitational on Friday and the Patriot Games on Friday and Saturday.
