WINCHESTER, Va. -- Rounding out the 2024-25 men's golf season, the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) announced the All-State College Division awards on Wednesday, listing Christopher Newport senior
Owen Cook as a second team All-State selection. Cook earns his first career All-State honor and extends a streak of 12 straight years with at least one Captain recognized by the organization.
This season, Cook led the Captains with a 74.5 stroke average which ranks among the top-15 single season efforts in program history. In 18 rounds of action, Cook fired four rounds at par or better including a single round personal best 68 (-4) at the Savannah Invitational on March 3. At the end of the 54-hole tournament, Cook set a personal best with a 214, shaving five strokes off his previous best effort. The Savannah Invitational finish ranks in the top-ten all-time relative to par with a two-under performance as Cook rounded out the tournament tied for ninth out of 100 players.
The best finish of the season for Cook came in the Alvernia Fall Invitational during the fall portion of the schedule. He tied for third out of 55 players with a 151 (75-76). He also finished three-over at the Gate City Invitational and the Jekyll Island Collegiate before finishing out the year with another top-ten performance at the Cochran Collegiate.
Over the course of his career, Cook has compiled a 76.3 stroke average to rank 13th all-time at CNU. He finished his tenure with nine rounds at par or better over 59 career rounds played and notched six top 20 finishes, five top tens, and a pair of top five efforts.
