Captains Move Up to 21st in New National Football Poll Following Double OT Victory at Rowan

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport University moved into the 21st spot this week in the new national poll from D3football.com. The Captains are 4-0 following a double overtime victory at Rowan University Saturday, 49-41. CNU had been ranked 23rd last week.

Junior quarterback Connor Barry led the way again for the Captains by throwing for five touchdowns, matching a school record, and running for a score as CNU battled back from a 20-6 first quarter deficit. Barry completed 27 of 44 passes for 434 yards, the third-most passing yards in a game in CNU history. Senior wide receiver Colin Hart caught two scoring passes from Barry, and finished with eight receptions for 144 yards.

Paul Crowley's squad has now scored 177 points over the first four victories, averaging 44.2 points per game. The Captains have set a new program record with nine consecutive victories dating back to last season.

The Captains make their first trip to Vermont Saturday to play new NJAC member Vermont State-Castleton (2-2, 0-1). Kickoff is set for 12 noon in Castleton, Vt. Christopher Newport will be looking to start a season with five straight victories for the first time in the 25-year history of CNU football.
