GLASSBORO, N.J. - Saturday marks the start of conference play in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC), and a pair of unbeaten teams will square off at Coach Richard Wackar Stadium. Christopher Newport University is 3-0 and ranked 23rd in the country this week, while Rowan University is 2-0-1 through non-conference play. The NJAC battle is set to kick off at 1:00 p.m.

The Captains moved into the Top 25 this week following a 41-27 victory over Susquehanna University last Saturday at TowneBank Stadium. Paul Crowley's team improved to 3-0 and has now matched a school record for consecutive wins with eight dating back to last season. The victory also marked the first win over a ranked opponent for CNU since the Captains downed 17th-ranked Wesley College in 2016.

A Family Weekend crowd of 3,726 watched junior quarterback Connor Barry throw for three touchdowns and 374 yards, and senior wide receiver Colin Hart catch four passes for 144 yards and a score, all in the first half, as the Captains handed the River Hawks their second loss in as many weeks. Last Saturday's meeting was the first of the programs, and was played in steady rain through the second half. CNU scored two touchdowns in a span of 33 seconds in the final minute of the first half to jump to a 31-27 lead at the break. Rain intensified as the game moved through the third quarter, and the Christopher Newport defense matched the intensity. CNU did not allow a point after halftime to the high-scoring River Hawks, who came into Saturday's match up averaging 37 points per game over their first three.

The Profs, meanwhile, traveled to Pennsylvania last Saturday and recorded a 34-24 victory at Lycoming. Rowan opened the year with a storm-shortened 17-17 tie with Case Western Reserve, and then won at home in Week 2 over Moravian, 56-0. Saturday's game is the 16th meeting all-time of the programs, and Rowan holds an 8-7 edge in the series. The Captains have won the last four games, most recently a 24-7 triumph last year at TowneBank Stadium. CNU is 3-3 all-time vs. the Profs at Coach Richard Wackar Stadium. The series began in the 2002 season, and the Profs won the first five meetings in the series.

Christopher Newport has now out-scored its three opponents this season, 128-48, and the CNU defense has allowed just a total of seven points after halftime this season.

Saturday's game will be one of four in the NJAC, and will begin a span of seven straight conference games for the Captains to close out the regular season. CNU has recorded 5-1 records in conference play in each of the last two seasons, and Christopher Newport won its first NJAC title two years ago in 2023.

All CNU games are broadcast live on the Home of the Captains, Xtra 99.1 FM and CNUsports.com. The pre-game show Saturday will begin at 12:30 p.m.
