NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport University quarterback Connor Barry was selected to the National Team of the Week Tuesday by D3football.com.

Barry led the Captains on Saturday by throwing five touchdown passes and running for a score in CNU's double-overtime victory at Rowan, 49-41. Barry completed 27 of 44 passes for 434 yards with no interceptions. The junior left-hander led the Captains back from a 20-6 first half deficit, and his 14-yard TD scamper with just 41 seconds left pulled CNU even at 34-34 to force overtime. Barry connected with senior wide receiver Colin Hart on an 80-yard pass in the fourth quarter and hit Hart again for a 20-yard TD in the first overtime. He was named the Offensive Player of the Week by the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) on Monday for the third time this season.

The Vienna, Va. native has thrown for 17 touchdowns and just one interception in four victories this season. For the second straight week, he leads the nation in pass efficiency, having completed 80 of 120 attempts so far for 1,377 yards. Barry is currently tied for second in the country in touchdown passes, behind only Utica's Tyler Szalkowski, who has thrown 18 scoring strikes. He is also second in yards per pass attempt with 11.5 behind only Maryville's Bryson Rollins (12.0).

This marks the second time this season the Captains have had a student-athlete on the National Football Team of the Week. Colin Hart earned the honor after a remarkable performance in CNU's season-opening victory over Trine at TowneBank Stadium. Hart caught seven passes for 199 yards vs. the Thunder, with four of his receptions going for scores.

Paul Crowley's squad has set a new program record with nine consecutive victories dating back to last season. Christopher Newport is ranked 21st in the country this week, and the Captains are preparing for a trip to Vermont this week to play new NJAC member Vermont State-Castleton (2-2, 0-1). Kickoff is set for 12 noon on Saturday at Dave Wolk Stadium in Castleton, Vt.
