NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Christopher Newport University football program received its 22nd all-time All-American honor on Monday, as junior offensive lineman
Andrew Belford was named second team All-America by D3football.com. Belford becomes the 15th different Captain to be named All-American in the 25-year history of the program.
Belford, from Chesapeake, Va., received his first All-Region honor this fall and second straight New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) accolade as a first team All-Conference Offensive Lineman. Belford anchored a CNU offensive line that produced a running attack that averaged 176.6 yards per game, and served as lead blocker for a line that aided in 28 scoring runs in 11 games. Belford, a graduate of Atlantic Shores Christian School, and his fellow linemen also provided outstanding pass protection, yielding just 21 sacks in 11 games played.
This is the third straight year the Captains have received an All-American accolade, and the third straight year an offensive lineman has been a recipient of the honor. Offensive lineman Josh Hartley was named second team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) in 2023, and last year offensive lineman
Amaan Miller was named third team All-American by D3football.com.
Belford's teammate, quarterback
Connor Barry, was selected second team All-American by the AFCA earlier this month.
Christopher Newport recorded its first-ever undefeated regular season this fall, going 10-0, and won the New Jersey Athletic Conference title for the second time since joining the conference in 2015.
