BETHLEHEM, Pa. --
Testing themselves against some of the finest programs in the nation on Friday, the Christopher Newport cross country teams will take part in the 51st Annual Paul Short Run, which will be hosted by Lehigh University at the Goodman Cross Country Course in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

Both the men and women will compete in the White Division during the meet. The men will take part in the 8k at 12:30 p.m. before the women head out for the 6k at 1:15 p.m. Several Captains will also run in the Open races, which begin at 9:30 a.m.

For those fans unable to attend the meet, live results will be available at LehighSports.com. A direct link can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.

One of the nation's largest cross country competitions, this year's edition of the Paul Short Run will feature more than 7,000 total athletes representing over 600 different high schools and colleges. Eight separate college races will take place during an action-packed Friday afternoon.

In the White Division, CNU will face a slew of nationally-ranked teams. On the men's side, the Captains will test themselves against 11 programs that were ranked in the latest USTFCCCA National Coaches Poll. Among the elite competition, four squads are listed in the top-20 with No. 13 NYU, No. 15 Carnegie Mellon, No. 16 Washington and Lee, and No. 19 MIT earning the highest marks in the field.

Meanwhile, in the 6k, Christopher Newport will square off with 14 nationally-ranked programs, including nine top-20 foes. Among the finest teams in the field, the women's race will be headlined by No. 5 NYU, No. 7 Carnegie Mellon, No. 9 Amherst, and No. 10 Washington and Lee.

Highly-regarded in their own right, the Captains continued to earn impressive marks in the most recent South Region rankings. The women are listed third in the South, while the men sit seventh overall.

Regular competitors at the Paul Short Run, the men placed 28th during last year's meet, while the women came in 40th in the star-studded field. Overall, 18 current Captains have previously competed at the Goodman Cross Country Course. Of those returning to the meet, Sarah Dake boasts the women's top time with a 23:43 clocking during last year's race, while Andrew Janetsky threw down a mark of 26:35 in the 8k.

CNU is looking to build upon an outstanding performance at last week's Don Cathcart Invitational, which saw nine runners finish in the top-20. Janetsky established a new PR while vaulting to eighth in school history in the 8k with a time of 24:53.30. Meanwhile, Dake and Kayla Lopez also added historic marks for the women. Dake jumped to 11th in program lore in the 6k (22:29.10), while Lopez climbed to 27th (23:10.40).

In addition to the history-makers, several standouts also established course-best times during Saturday's meet. Among those, Courtney Mudd sliced three minutes off her previous standard at WinterPlace Park, while Sarah Bland, Clayton Rankin, and Kevin Farnsworth all cut nearly two minutes off their old marks.

Following Friday's meet, Christopher Newport will return to action on October 18 with the Inter-Regional Border Battle hosted by Rowan in Logan Township, New Jersey.
