GREENWOD, Ind. -- Christopher Newport senior men's golfer
Aidan Baron was selected as an At-Large pick on the Academic All-District Team as announced by the College Sports Communicators on Tuesday afternoon. Baron becomes just the second CNU men's golfer to garner the prestigious academic honor, joining CNU Hall of Famer Brian Jaeger.
Jaeger was the first Academic All-District pick in 2013 and went on to collect third team Academic All-America honors from the organization. Baron was one of five Men's At-Large selections for Christopher Newport as he was joined by a quartet of CNU Men's Lacrosse players.
In order to be eligible for the honor, student-athletes must have at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA while serving as a starter or key reserve. Founded in 1952, the CSC (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-American program recognizes standouts from all sports every year with fewer than 10 percent of those student-athletes receiving the nation's highest academic honor.
A leader on and off the field for the CNU Men's Golf program,
Aidan Baron finished the season as one of only three players to start all eight events played this year for the Captains. He closed out his senior year with a 74.7 average while posting one top-five and two top-ten finishes.
Baron finished second out of 108 golfers at the O'Briant Jensen Memorial in early October, firing a one-under 141 (71-70). Later in the fall, the veteran added a seventh place showing out of 85 golfers with a one-over 145 (71-74) at the 74th annual VSGA Intercollegiate Championship.
The three-time NCAA National Championship participant wrapped up his fourth year with a 75.7 career average, climbing to ninth all-time at Christopher Newport.
Christopher Newport men's golf registered three top-five finishes as a team this season with Baron leading the way. The veteran finished fourth at the O'Briant-Jensen Memorial, third at the VSGA Intercollegiate, and fifth in the Cochran Collegiate.
