MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. --
Putting a fitting punctuation mark on a standout career at Christopher Newport, CJ Reeders hauled in All-American accolades in the triple jump after starring on the final day of the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships on Saturday afternoon at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.

In the triple jump, Reeders placed 13th in the country, which earned him a second-team All-American citation. On his very first attempt of the competition, the fifth-year phenom landed a distance of 14.54 meters. That marked his second-longest leap of the season.

Rounding out his performance on the national stage, the Quinton, Virginia native added a 14.51-meter mark on his second try and a 14.47-meter leap on his final attempt. He was one of only three competitors in the field to eclipse 47 feet on each of his first three jumps.

A six-time national qualifier during his collegiate career, Reeders picked up his third All-American accolade with his performance on Saturday. He previously earned national citations after placing seventh at the 2021 outdoor championships and eighth at the 2023 indoor meet.

Adding his name to an illustrious list of Christopher Newport legends, Reeders became the sixth Captain to receive at least three All-American awards in the triple jump. He joined former stars Isaac Bell, David Bullock, Steven Roberts, Damon Talley, and Dominique Torres.

Along with Reeders, Katie Stevens also capped off a tremendous junior campaign on Saturday. Competing in her second event at the outdoor championships, she placed 18th in the nation in the hammer throw. On her final attempt of the year, she uncorked a 47.50-meter heave.

In addition to her final throw of the meet, Stevens also posted a 41.81-meter toss on her first try of the day. That performance came on the heels of an All-American outing on Thursday in the discus. During her first event of the competition, she placed fifth in the country with a 46.58-meter toss.

With her busy week, the Cary, North Carolina native became the first Captain to compete in two throwing events at the same championship meet since CNU Hall of Famer Claudia Stanley took part in the shot put and discus in 1986. Polishing off a tremendous season, the third-year star also hauled in All-American nods in the weight throw after placing 12th at the NCAA Indoor Championships in March.

Along with her national awards, Stevens set fire to the record books in 2024. During the year, she established new program standards in the discus (48.86 meters), hammer (52.82 meters), and weight throw (17.56 meters). Incredibly, all three marks also set new Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference records.
