ALLIANCE, Ohio -- The Christopher Newport track & field teams wrapped up a busy week on Thursday evening with a solid showing on the last day of the Mount Union Final Qualifier at Kehres Stadium.
During the competition,
CJ Reeders won the triple jump with a 14.32-meter effort, while
Gary Lane finished fourth in the event with a 13.67-meter leap. Both standouts currently rank in the top-25 nationally in the event. Entering Thursday, Reeders sits 16th on the NCAA charts (14.59 meters), while Lane is 23rd (14.46).
In other field events on the men's side,
Tyler Palmer was seventh in the shot put (14.99 meters), and
Latrell Fomby matched that finish in the discus (47.29 meters). Meanwhile, in the hammer,
Dante Ntiganzwa came in ninth (52.20 meters), while
Colin Sliwa placed 11th (51.30).
On the track,
Daniel Fox added a pair of top-10 marks. He placed fifth in the 200 with a time of 21.82 after finishing sixth in the finals of the 100 with a 10.86 clocking.
On the women's side,
Katie Stevens added a fourth-place mark in the hammer with a 49.20-meter launch. She currently ranks in the top-25 nationally in a pair of events. The third-year star sits sixth in the country in the discus (48.86 meters) and 21st in the hammer (52.82 meters).
With CNU's final competition in the books, the Captains will await word on potential bids to the NCAA Championships, which will be held at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina beginning on May 23. The nation's top-22 declared athletes in every event will earn a spot at the title meet. The final list of participants will be released on NCAA.com by 8 p.m. on Friday.
