Daniel Ferrante Earns USTFCCCA National All-Academic Cross Country Honors

NEW ORLEANS -- For the fourth time in his career, Daniel Ferrante hauled in USTFCCCA National All-Academic honors, while the entire Christopher Newport men's cross country squad was celebrated for its scholarly achievements by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Thursday afternoon.

Headlining the decorated contingent, Ferrante continued stockpiling awards for his work both in and out of the classroom. During his four-year tenure at CNU, he has been named to the National All-Academic Cross Country team in each of the past three seasons, while he earned the same honor for his performance with the track & field program as a sophomore in 2022.

To receive the cross country award, student-athletes must have at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA while finishing in the top-25 percent at their respective regional championship.

Along with Ferrante, the entire men's squad was celebrated as a National Academic Team for the sixth time in school history. That award is bestowed on programs that have a cumulative team GPA of at least 3.1 through the fall semester.

During his senior season, Ferrante earned an individual bid to the NCAA Championships after starring throughout the year. Prior to the national meet, he hauled in All-League and All-Region accolades for his performance. The Sterling, Virginia native placed fourth at the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Championships before coming in 18th at the NCAA South Regionals.

In addition to his work at the end of the year, he also added a pair of top-20 efforts during the regular season. In back-to-back appearances, Ferrante came in ninth at the Rowan Interregional Border Battle and 14th at the historic Paul Short Run.

Overall, he is a three-time All-Conference and All-Region performer, while his personal-best time of 24:32.2 in the 8k ranks fifth on the school's all-time charts.

Equally impressive in the classroom, the computer science major is a perennial Academic All-Conference selection and a two-time Academic All-District recipient.
