BETHLEHEM, Pa. --
Taking part in three separate races at the 50th Annual Paul Short Run on Saturday, the Christopher Newport cross country teams pieced together a solid effort during the prestigious competition, which was hosted by Lehigh University at the Goodman Cross Country Course.

Facing a field littered with nationally-ranked programs from all three levels of the NCAA, the men placed 28th in the White 8k, while the women came in 40th in the White 6k. Several men also took part in Saturday morning's Open 8k as individual participants.

Headlining the action, Sarah Dake established a new personal-best in the 6k after finishing in 23:43.5. That shaved 20 seconds off her previous PR and marked the 39th-fastest clocking in program history. Shortly thereafter, Josie Brumfield and Katherine Streeter also set personal-best marks in the race after crossing in 24:24.9 and 24:25.4, respectively.

Following the top-three performers, Courtney Mudd was up next in 24:34.0, while Sarah Bland rounded out the top-five in 24:46.9. Along with Bland and Streeter, fellow freshmen Lena Blagg (25:04.7) and Sydney Chipperfield (26:35.1) also established new 6k PRs during the competition.

On the men's side, Andrew Janetsky paced CNU with a time of 26:35.7. Following the first-year phenom, several veterans posted course-best marks on Saturday. Making their return to the historic meet, Clayton Rankin finished in 26:44.8, Tom Foti wrapped up the 8k in 26:47.1, and Luke Tompkins also eclipsed the 27-minute mark after crossing in 26:49.1.

Rounding out the top-five, Johnny Atienza cut 18 seconds off his PR with a time of 27:02.6. Meanwhile, Taylor Dalton (27:16.3) and Evan Young (27:36.8) also finished in the team's top-seven.

Earlier in the day, several men took part in the Open 8k as well. In that group, Jason Sangiuliano led the Captains with a time of 28:24.2.

Christopher Newport will return to action on October 19 when the Captains head to Glassboro, New Jersey for the Inter-Regional Border Battle.
