GREENSBORO, N.C. -- In the final tournament of the fall season, the Christopher Newport men's golf team tied for 17th at the O'Briant Jensen Memorial. The Captains finished at 68-over par with a 636 (316-320) after the second round on Tuesday.
In the second round, the Captains were led by
Michael Thomas and
J.P. Carr with eight-over 79's. Thomas finished the event in 30th place on the individual leaderboard to post the best finish for Christopher Newport with a 154 (75-79). Over two rounds of play, Thomas knocked in four birdies in the tournament and added ten pars on Tuesday to finish the event with a team-high 19.
Carr notched a sub-80 round on Tuesday with a 79 and finished out his two day scoring with a 162 (83-79). In the second round, the rookie birdied the 400-yard par four 6th and the 305-yard par four 13th holes. He birdied 13 on both days and finished the tournament with three birdies and 16 pars. His 20-over was good for 72nd on the individual leaderboard.
Finishing in 47th,
Owen Cook had a stellar run on holes 1-7 with six pars and one birdie. He joined Thomas and Carr with a birdie on hole number six to highlight his day. At 15-over, Cook signed for a 157 (77-80) and poured in four birdies with 18 pars.
Jacob Foti recorded the final score on day two with an 11-over 82. He dropped in a birdie four on the 542-yard par five 4th hole and added four pars in a five-hole stretch. He added three more pars on the back nine and finished 83rd with a 22-over 164 (82-82).
Nick Alexander (+25) recorded a 167 (81-85). On Tuesday, he had six pars and a birdie on the 189-yard par three 16th.
