WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Putting a solid punctuation mark on a two-day showcase at the Camel City Invitational, the Christopher Newport track & field teams wrapped up Saturday's action with another strong outing at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Just a day after anchoring the women's record-setting distance medley relay,
Eliza Dana came back with a starring performance in the 3000. On Saturday, she completed the race in 10:38.35, which marked the 10th-fastest clocking in program history.
In other distance disciplines,
Evan Young finished the men's 3000 in 8:45.85, while
Luke Tompkins wrapped up the mile in 4:31.08.
Courtney Mudd also threw down a time of 5:21.81 in the women's mile after running the lead leg on the DMR on Friday.
In field events, three Captains notched top-10 finishes in the shot put. On the men's side,
Tyler Palmer placed ninth with a 13.43-meter launch, while
Dante Ntiganzwa was 10th with a 13.22-meter effort. For the women,
Katie Stevens landed a throw of 12.25 meters, which placed her seventh at the competition
CJ Reeders and
Ashley Eley also finished among the meet's top performers in the triple jump. Reeders came in seventh in the men's event with a 13.82-meter leap, while Eley came in 10th in the women's discipline with a 10.71-meter landing.
Christopher Newport will return to action on February 2 for the start of the VMI Winter Relays in Lexington, Virginia.
