Live Results

FAIRFAX, Va. --
Alyssa Roach climbed into the top-10 nationally in the pentathlon and established a new PR in the event while representing the Christopher Newport track & field program during the Patriot Games on Friday evening at the George Mason Field House.

During the combined event, Roach accumulated a score of 3,210, which moved her to sixth on the national leaderboard entering the weekend. It also established a new personal-best, topping her previous standard of 3,188 set during last year's NCAA Championships.

Along with placing her among the top standouts in the country this year, Roach's effort on Friday also put her fifth on the program's all-time performance list. Additionally, it marked the top showing by a Captain since former legend Briana Sutton compiled a score of 3,285 during the 2017 NCAA Championships.

Putting her diverse skill set on full display, Roach starred throughout Friday's competition. Kicking off the action, she finished second in the 60-hurdles with a time of 9.24 before equaling the second-best clearance in the high jump with a 1.53-meter effort.

Later, she just missed matching her PR in the shot put with an 8.89-meter launch before placing third in the field with a 5.16-meter long jump. Rounding out the gauntlet, she wrapped up the 800 in 2:34.72, which marked the second-fastest clocking at the meet.

Roach is looking to make a return trip to the NCAA Championships in the pentathlon after placing 12th in the country during last year's competition. A three-time national qualifier in her career, the Yorktown, Virginia native is also the reigning NCAA South Region Indoor Field Athlete of the Year.

In addition to her work in the pentathlon, Roach also ranks among the top-50 nationally in three other events this season. The fourth-year star is currently sixth in the long jump (5.59 meters), 33rd in the 60-hurdles (9.15), and 42nd in the high jump (1.58 meters).

Roach and the rest of her teammates will return to action on Sunday when Christopher Newport hosts the Vince Brown Invitational at the Freeman Center.
