NORMAN, Okla. -- Adding to his already impressive collection of accolades, Christopher Newport junior
Robb Kinder was named a second team All-American by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA), joining teammate
Alex Price among those honored in 2021-22. Kinder is the fifth player in program history to earn multiple All-American certificates after earning second-team honors in 2022 followed by an honorable mention pick last season.
Matching their selections a year ago, Price and Kinder mark the sixth time in program history that a pair of CNU men's golfers earned All-American recognition in the same season, including the fourth time in the last six years. They are the first set of teammates to go back-to-back since Scott Causby and Scott Scovil were each selected in 1995 and 1996.
Prior to Thursday's announcement of the second-team, third-team, and honorable mention All-Americans, the GCAA had previously announced the first team honorees, including
Alex Price.
On Thursday, Kinder learned he would also be a repeat All-American after again leading the team at the NCAA Division III National Championships. The 2021 VaSID All-State Player of the Year followed up his runner-up finish in 2021 with another spectacular showing at the championship event in 2022. Kinder led the 221-player field in total pars with 50 even scores over the 72-hole event, including one of the best rounds in program history with 17 pars and one bogey in the final round for a 73.
Kinder became just the second Captain in program history to record multiple sub-300 rounds at the NCAA National Championships, and the first since Scott Scovil accomplished the feat in the 1994 and 1996 tournaments. He finished the 2022 event with a top-25 effort and a 298 (74-72-79-73).
In his third season with the Captains, the junior right-hander averaged 73.3 strokes per round with four top-ten finishes. He picked up one win, in a playoff over Price at the Glenn Heath Memorial, and recorded nine rounds at par or better during the season. He lowered his career average to 73.8 over 46.5 rounds of play, which ranks second in program history heading into his senior season.
The GCAA recognized 53 total All-American golfers this year with nine first team and eight second and third team selections. Twenty-seven golfers earned Honorable Mention All-American accolades.
