SANDESTIN, Fla. -- The talented senior combo of Alex Price and Robb Kinder showed off on Tuesday for the nationally-ranked Christopher Newport men's golf team, helping lift the Captains to an 11th-place effort at the 2022 Golfweek Fall Invitational. Price (-1) fired a one-under 70 to finish tied for third overall while Kinder shot a one-over 72 with a highlight-reel Eagle late in the day to help lift the No. 1 CNU Men's Golf team three spots on the team leaderboard on the final day. 

The 54-hole tournament was won by Emory (+7) while Oglethorpe's Michael O'Sullivan (-6) wrapped up individual medalist honors. The Captains weren't far behind on either chart, finishing with an 882 (287-303-292) for a +30 showing at the three-day event. Facing a field that included 17 teams ranked in the top-50 on the GolfStat rankings, the Captains finished 11th overall behind the fourth-best third round score of the tournament. 

On Tuesday, CNU signed for an 8-over par 292 for the team's eighth sub-300 round of the season. It ranked as the fifth-best finish of the Fall in terms of total score. 

Continuing his strong start to the 2022-23 season, Alex Price notched his sixth round at par or better in nine trips around the course so far this season. He finished the three-day event with a 212 (69-73-70), ranking as the fourth-finest 54-hole tournament finish in his career. The CNU southpaw played one of the cleanest rounds of his career, finishing with just a single bogey in the 18-hole trek. He also added a pair of birdies to go with 15 pars to hang at the top of the individual leaderboard before finishing in a tie for third place. Price ran off a run of 15 straight holes at par or better to close out the tournament. 

For the second straight tournament, Kinder saved his finest golf for the final round as he escaped the Raven Golf Club with a one-over 72 in the third round to cap a 225 (75-78-72) for the week. The 120-player field took on the lengthy 565-yard Par 5 third whole a 360 times as a group over the week and on Tuesday, Kinder dropped in one of only three Eagles. As a team, the Captains birdied it only twice before Kinder's eagle sent the senior home with the biggest highlight of an overall quality round. Kinder had three more birdies on the day and also sank nine par putts. 

In the final round, junior Aidan Baron finished with a three-over 74 and sophomore Jack Gessaman notched a five-over 76. Rookie Austin Smith, who did not play in Monday's second round, was sitting at three-over through 16 holes before a tough seven late saw him finish with a 78. 

Baron and Gessman matched eachother on the individual leaderboard, tied for 52nd at ten-over par through three rounds. For Baron, the 223 ranks as his second best 54-hole finish while Gessaman notched his finest career three-round tournament by three strokes. 

Additionally, the Captains sent four individuals to the 73rd VSGA Intercollegiate Championship to compete at Sleepy Hole GC in Suffolk, Va. Sophomore Michael Thomas won individual medalist honors with a 150 (71-79), tying Will Clary (Roanoke) over the 36-hole event for the top spot. Thomas had four birdies and 23 pars over the two rounds to lead the way for CNU. 

Owen Cook (+10) added a top-ten finish with a 154 (77-77), tying for 9th, and Drew Parr finished 19th with a 158 (80-78). Cook sank a pair of birdies while Parr had three between the two rounds. Owen Taylor tied for 36th with a 163 (75-88) to round out the CNU performances.
