Alex Price and Robb Kinder Named Division III PING All-Americans

NORMAN, Okla. -- Continuing their assault on the Christopher Newport record books, sophomores Robb Kinder and Alex Price added to the mounting list of honors on Wednesday as they were each named 2021 Division III PING All-Americans by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). Price was selected as a second team All-American and Kinder grabbed an honorable mention certificate.

It is the fifth time in program history that a pair of CNU men's golfers earned All-American recognition in the same season, including the third time in the last five years. Both Captains become the first sophomores to earn All-American honors since Scott Causby in 1996.

In addition to making history as a pair, Alex Price continues to trek into elite territory as an individual. The left-handed golfer became just the fourth player in the history of CNU men's golf to earn multiple All-American plaques and only the second to do so in his first two seasons. He joins an exclusive club that includes only Joe Monk (1990, 1991), Scott Scovil (1994, 1995, 1996), and Scott Causby (1995, 1996).

Price was a first team All-State selection and also collected his second straight spot on the GCAA All-Region squad. This season, he never shot higher than a 76 and registered the second lowest single season average in program history with a 73.4. Price finished in the top-ten in three of the five events played, including a fourth-place showing at the VSGA Intercollegiate. At the Savannah Invitational, Price finished the 54-hole tournament under par and tied for 10th among the 80-player field. He also tied for 19th with a +6 among 133 golfers at the Jekyll Island Invitational, tied for 8th out of 60 at the Golfweek DIII Invitational at six-over, and finished tied for 15th out of 191 NCAA Championship participants with a 13-over score over four days of play.

Joining his classmate among the 48 All-American selections in 2020-21 was this year's national runner-up, Robb Kinder. Hauling in honorable mention recognition, Kinder becomes the 13th player in program history to earn the national honor. The VaSID State Player of the Year was a GCAA All-Region pick, helping Christopher Newport match a program record with four total players honored in 2021.

Kinder finished second at the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships, marking the finest finish for a CNU player since Scovil's championship showing in 1994. The second-year star carded a 287 (77-71-70-69) to finish two strokes behind the individual champion, while also leading CNU to the finest team finish ever with an eighth place effort. Kinder wrapped up the season with a team-best five rounds under par in 11.5 total rounds played. He finished in the top-ten in two of his four events, including his first career victory at the VSGA Intercollegiate Championship.

During the shortened 2020-21 season, Christopher Newport appeared in five total events including the national championship tournament. Powered by the strength of the two sophomore All-American,s the Captains finished among the top ten in all five, including a team win of the VSGA Intercollegiate Championship. At the final event of the season, CNU finished in a record 1,193 strokes over 72 holes, shattering the previous mark by 11 strokes.
