David Weiner have announced the postponement of Friday's home matches against North Carolina Wesleyan College. The Christopher Newport men will now focus on their next match set for Sunday, March 21st as the Captains will travel to take on Washington & Lee University at 2:00 p.m.Â
Weiner has announced the women's program will face off against the Battling Bishops next Wednesday, March 24 at 2:00 p.m. while the men's teams have not announced plans to make up the date yet.Â
The CNU women's tennis team has opened the year with a 2-1 start, picking up wins against St. Mary's (Md.) and Sweet Briar last weekend. The Captains also nearly defeated Division I Norfolk State before ultimately suffering a 5-4 setback.Â
Rookies
Megan Bauer and
Kiersten Chang are undefeated in doubles play this season while the other two tandems,
Tessa Trate and
Amanda Yermal at No. 1 and
Reagan Delp and
Kara Ferner at No. 2, have posted matching 2-1 marks. In singles action, Trate is 2-0 to start her career while playing at No. 2 and Delp has gone 2-1 on the top line.Â
The men's program is 3-1 to start the year including a 1-1 record against conference opponents. The Captains have won nine of 12 doubles matches including a perfect 4-0 start to the season at No. 3 doubles.Â
Playing in that spot are brothers James Baron and Paul Baron, streaking to four straight wins. James has also gone 2-1 in singles action playing at 2 and 3 this season. Reigning C2C Men's Tennis Player of the Week Scotty Hunter is 3-1 at No. 1 singles and 3-1 in doubles while pairing with teammate Matthew Dubuque.Â
