CNU Women's Tennis Topples Salisbury in Regular Season Finale, 7-0

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- With a dominant showing on a beautiful Spring afternoon at the Eyre Courts, the No. 40 CNU Women's Tennis team secured a 7-0 win over No. 66 Salisbury University on Saturday afternoon to close out the regular season. The Captains improved to 7-11 overall this season while Salisbury is 9-5 after the matchup in Newport News. 

In doubles play, the Captains won all three matches and then rolled through singles action as well with victories in all six head-to-head bouts. All six starters earned wins in both singles and doubles in the victory. 

Leading the charge on the top line was junior Kylie Schaefer, who paired with sophomore Kendal Chang for a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles before adding a 6-0, 1-6, 6-4 at No. 1 singles against Gibelle Beaujon. Chang also earned a hard-fought win at No. 2 singles against Cleo Solomon, outlasting her Salisbury counterpart for a 6-7 (2), 6-3, 1-0 (7) win. 

The No. 2 doubles tandem for CNU was Lindsey Bergelin and Samantha Robertson and the duo rolled to a 6-0 win over Evelyn Whiteside and Elizabeth Coligan. In singles, Robertson won at No. 4, surrendering just a single game in a 6-1, 6-0 win, and Bergelin wrapped up her match at No. 6 against Leah Osmon with a 6-4, 6-0 final score. 

Finally, the No. 3 pairing was Emma Carver and Eva Taylor, cruising to a 6-0 win against Olivia Hall and Ridgley Lake. Taylor closed out her final regular season home match against Olivia Hall at No. 3, winning 6-1, 6-1. Carver finished up her first regular season at CNU with a 6-2, 6-0 victory against Lake. 

Seeding for the 2026 Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Championship will be announced on Monday, April 27. The tournament will be hosted by Mary Washington with the semifinal round being played at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 2 and the championship/consolation matches scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 3.
