Entering his sixth season as the Christopher Newport women's tennis head coach in 2022-23, Weiner is in his 11th year as a member of the staff after having served as an assistant for both the men's and woomen's teams since August of 2012. While on the staff, the Captains have made monumental strides toward the goal of winning a national championship. The CNU men's team won the CAC Championship in 2017 and the women's program has vaulted higher in the national rankings than ever before. 

A marquee season in the quest for national prominence came in 2020-21 when he guided junior Reagan Delp to the NCAA Division III Singles National Championships. Under Weiner's tutelage, Delp recorded a pair of victories in the national event and became the first All-American in women's tennis history. In the final national rankings, Delp collected the highest individual honor, the Captains were ranked higher than ever before as a team, and rookie Tessa Trate became the first freshman to finish the year ranked in both singles and doubles. 

The bar continues to rise as the team added more precedent-setting headlines in 2021-22. Trate played with newcomer Raine Weis throughout the year and by season's end, the duo became the first ever partnership to qualify for the NCAA Division III National Championships. Weis also qualified for the singles bracket and became the first player in Captains' tennis history to play in both championships in the same season. Powered by the success of the two young players, CNU finished the year with the highest national ranking in program history at No. 23 in the nation. 

In his final year as an assistant coach, Weiner was named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Atlantic South Region Assistant Coach of the Year, marking the first time a CNU coach has collected the honor. Weiner helped the CNU women's tennis team to a record-breaking season in 2016-17 while seeing the Captains earn a spot in the Top 25 for the first time in program history. 

Trending upwards, Weiner then guided the Captains to another record-breaking campaign in 2017-18 in his first year as head coach. For the second year in a row, CNU set a new program record for the highest national ranking in the final poll of the season as they finished the year ranked No. 25. Leading the way, Weiner helped guide sophomore Johanna Ranta-aho to CAC Player of the Year plaudits and the first NCAA Singles Championship appearance by a Captain since 1992. 

Prior to arriving at CNU, Weiner served as the head of Elite Training at the Folkes Stevens Indoor Tennis Center at Old Dominion University. He graduated from Christopher Newport University in 2008 with a degree in political science. A native of Charlottesville, Virginia, he graduated from Charlottesville High School in 2003. 
     
Weiner began his coaching career at the James River Country Club in Newport News, Virginia. As the assistant tennis professional from 2007-2009 he was responsible for teaching lessons to players of all ages and ability levels and also for coaching the players in the James River Tennis Academy. During this time David was also the primary traveling coach for high level tournament players where he was responsible for the training, tournament travel, and match planning for a large group of junior players. 
   
Weiner began work at the Folkes Stevens Tennis Center in October of 2009 and quickly established one of the premier training sites for players in the Hampton Roads area and the state of Virginia. David has worked with 5 players who have attained national rankings in the top 200 in the last two years. He has worked with over 10 different players who have achieved top 25 Mid-Atlantic rankings in the last two years. He has coached 5 players ranked in the top 10 of their respective age groups and 2 players who have been ranked #1 in their age division. His players have won 3 national junior tournaments along with numerous sectional and local events. He has coached Junior Team Tennis teams which have won league, district, and regional championships in each season. His players have been selected to multiple zonal, national, and intersectional competition teams and have a winning record at those events. David has been selected to coach a weekend program at the Regional Training Center in June of 2012 which is a compilation of the most promising junior players in the Mid-Atlantic section brought together to train with one another. 
         
Prior to joining the coaching rankings, Weiner played his collegiate tennis at Christopher Newport University where he was a member of the team for 4 seasons. He was part of the team which won a 2006 USA South conference championship which was the first for the school since 1993. He was also a member of the 2007 team which tied for a  first place conference finish and marked the first time the team had finished first in the conference in back to back seasons since 1982-83.
