ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. -- In a terrific debut tournament, Christopher Newport freshman Alex Price fired back-to-back 71's to finish tied for fourth at the 2019 Don Scalf Invitational. His performance led the Captains to a fourth place finish as a team as the 36-hole tournament concluded on Monday afternoon. 

Price (-2) is the first rookie to finish his first career tournament under par in at least 15 years as no other Captain has accomplished the feat since statistics were moved online in 2005. It's the first under par showing in a 36-hole tournament for the Captains this year and the first since Joey Corlett finished two-under at the 2017 VSGA Intercollegiate. Price fired a two-day 142 (71-71).

The freshman poured in five more birdies in Monday's second round to run his tournament total to nine. He was Even through the first nine holes and then sank two more birdies on 11 and 12 to get under par. A bogey on 15 brought his score back to even but a par-par-birdie finish saw the rookie sign for his second straight 71. He finished just three strokes behind individual medalist Andre Chi (Methodist) and one back of a two-way tie for second. 

Fellow rookie Robb Kinder had the second best day on Monday with a two-over 74 to finish with a 147 (+3). Kinder finished with 14 pars on the second day and one birdie. He tied for 11th with teammate Kevin Quinto (+3) who signed for a 77 in the second round. 

Will Snyder rounded out the scoring in the second round with a six-over 78 and Joey Corlett was just one stroke back with a seven-over 79. 

Playing as an individual, sophomore Carson Castelli finished tied for 25th on the leaderboard to mark the highest finish among individual players. Castelli shot a 150 (74-76) for the Captains.
