BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The Christopher Newport cross country teams will take part in the 46th Annual Paul Short Run on Saturday, which will be hosted by Lehigh University at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course.
 
The Paul Short Run, which is one of the nation's premier cross country events, will feature approximately 6,000 student-athletes representing 450 institutions from around the country. Overall, 14 different races will take place during the all-day competition.
 
The Christopher Newport men's team will head out on the course at 12:15 p.m. in the Brown 8k, which will feature 47 colleges from all levels of the NCAA. Meanwhile, the women will run in the White 6k, which will include competitors from 48 other colleges from Division II and III. The start time for that race is slated for 2:30 p.m.

The Captains have made an annual pilgrimage to the Paul Short Run in recent years. In a meet littered with nationally-ranked competition, the men's top finish came in 2015 when the squad placed 16th in the Brown 8k. The women's best showing over the past four seasons came in 2017 when Christopher Newport finished 27th in the Brown 6k.
 
Both the men and women came in 35th during the 2018 Paul Short Run.
 
Making their fourth trip to the meet, Jessica Lee and Samantha Dickerson have been regulars in the women's race since 2016. Lee's top clocking came as a freshman when she threw down a time of 22:41, which established a new PR. Dickerson's finest effort came last year when she finished the 6k in 23:55.
 
Along with the course regulars, Monica Lannen has also registered a pair of sub-24-minute clockings at the Paul Short Run, including a team-best 23:16 mark last year. Natalie Prye and Kellie Hyde have also taken part in each of the last two competitions at Lehigh, while Logan Funk made her debut as a freshman in 2018.
 
On the men's side, Jason Putnam is the leading veteran on the Captains. The senior has competed at the Paul Short Run twice in his career, including a course-best time of 25:48 in 2017. Nick Tolarchyk also ran the 8k last season and completed the event in 27:35.
 
Following Saturday's competition, Christopher Newport will return home on October 12 for the CNU Invitational at Lee Hall Mansion.
