Christopher Newport Men's Golf Captures Sixth Place Finish in Fall Finale

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Three Captains finished the second round of the O'Briant-Jensen Memorial Golf Tournament with Even par scores of 71 on Tuesday to lead the Christopher Newport squad to the fifth lowest round of the day. Christopher Newport fired a 288 (+4) and finished sixth in the 22-team event.

On day two, Kevin Quinto, Will Snyder, and Robb Kinder all carded 71's while Alex Price added a four-over 75 to round out the Captains' scoring. Price and Quinto had the top finish for the Captains with a tie for 16th after 36 holes in 145 strokes. Joey Corlett added a tie for 37th and Snyder and Kinder moved up to a tie for 57th.

Quinto scored the finest round of the day without much color on his card, dropping in 14 pars for his even round finish. He added two bogeys and two birdies for the clean run through The Cardinal by Pete Dye and paired his exceptional second round with a solid three-over first. He signed for a 145 (74-71).

Snyder and Kinder had matching performances with a pair of 151 (80-71) finishes in the tournament. On Tuesday, Snyder started three-over on the front, but a stellar back nine got him back to even on the way back into the clubhouse. The senior scored birdies on 10, 13, 14, and 16 with just one bogey on the last nine holes. Kinder raced out to a good start with three birdies on the front nine, on 1, 4, and 8, before closing two-over on the back. He posted his career-best finish with the 71.

Alex Price was at the top of the scoring column for Christopher Newport on day one with a one-under 70. On the second day, Price was haunted by a pair of double-bogeys in an otherwise terrific round as he finished at four-over on the day. He added birdies on 7, 10, and 13, and ranked second behind Corlett in total pars with 22.

Finally, Corlett closed with a strong back nine, firing a one-under 35 in his last nine holes, but did not factor into the scoring on Tuesday with a six-over 77. He finished with a 149 (72-77) for the tournament.

The Captains finished with a 584 (296-288) in the two-day event and ran their sub-300 streak to six straight rounds. Christopher Newport closes the fall portion of the schedule with the event and will not be in action again until March 9-10 at The Savannah Invitational hosted by Berry College.
