FAIRFAX, Va. -- The Christopher Newport women's tennis fall opener at the George Mason Invitational has been cancelled due to weather in the Northern Virginia area. Head coach David Weiner announced the team would not compete in the event early Saturday morning. 

CNU was slated to open the season in Fairfax, Va. on Saturday, but will now first take to the courts at the Elon Fall Invite next weekend. 

The 2018-19 version of the CNU women's tennis team features two seniors in Collette Gilbert and Lily Schreiber, with one returning junior in Johanna Ranta-aho. Transfer Olivia Reed is also a member of the junior class, while a group of six freshmen and three sophomores make up the majority of the roster.
