FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Logan Funk has been named the Capital Athletic Conference Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week after piecing together a starring performance during the CNU Invitational on Saturday at Lee Hall Mansion.
With the honor, Funk becomes the first CNU freshman to secure the weekly cross country award since current teammate
Jessica Lee won a pair during her inaugural campaign in 2016. She is also the second Captain to win the award this year after
Monica Lannen was celebrated as the league's top performer on September 5.
On Saturday, Funk made her home debut with an impressive victory in the 3k. During the race, the first-year standout completed the course in 11:20. That was 16 seconds faster than the next closest competitor.
Showcasing her talents at a variety of distances this year, Funk has put together a solid freshman campaign. She kicked off the year with a second-place showing in the 4k at the Mary Washington Opener on August 31. During the race, she crossed the line in 15:26.7, which was nine seconds faster than the next-best freshman at the meet.
Continuing her year, Funk took part in the 6k at the prestigious Paul Short Run on September 29. Facing a decorated field littered with Division I competition, she threw down a time of 24:15.
Funk and her teammates will return to action on Saturday when the Captains take part in the Wisconsin-Oshkosh Kollege Town Sports Invitational.
