Men's Gold 8k Results // Men's Open 8k Results // Women's Brown 6k Results

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --
For the second straight year, Grayson Reid established a new program record in the 8k at the Paul Short Run as the senior star paced a terrific effort by the Christopher Newport cross country teams during the competition hosted by Lehigh University at the Goodman Cross Country Course on Friday.

Cutting four seconds off of his own school record, Reid finished the race in 24:39. That placed him 74th overall in a field littered with nationally-ranked Division I competition. It also marked the second-fastest time by a Division III runner on Friday and topped his own school record of 24:43, which he established last year on the same course.

In addition to Reid, Jeff Dover joined his teammate as one of only six Captains in program history to break the 25-minute mark in the 8k. During the race, he clocked in at 24:54, which placed him 111th overall and eighth among Division III runners. With that performance, he joined Reid, Steve Kast, Dan Pittman, Des Proctor, and James Ratcliff in the exclusive sub-25 club.

Guided by those efforts, Christopher Newport placed 27th in the final team standings of the Men's Gold Race with 691 points. That total also ranked as the third-highest among Division III programs, topping No. 3 Johns Hopkins, No. 15 Williams, No. 17 Middlebury, and No. 24 TCNJ.

Along with the headliners, the 13th-ranked men's cross country team had a slew of excellent performances on Friday. JJ LaPointe finished third on the team with a 25:02 clocking, which stands as the fifth-fastest time in CNU history. Daniel Read also threw down a 25:23 mark, while Sam Murch (25:26), Cavanaugh McGaw (25:27), and Jason Putnam (25:48) rounded out the top-seven.

Overall, the squad's top-five had a 47-second spread, while the top-seven were separated by a mere 69 seconds.

Meanwhile, on the women's side, Christopher Newport registered a 27th-place finish in the Brown 6k, which also included programs from all divisions of the NCAA. Overall, the Captains collected 658 points in the final team standings.

Headlining the women's efforts, Jessica Lee posted a top-100 finish in the race after the sophomore crossed the line in 23:04, which placed her 81st overall. Monica Lannen and Kathryn Wilson also came in under the 24-minute mark. Lannen was second on the squad with a 23:36 clocking, while Wilson was third with a 23:41 mark.

Continuing a solid debut campaign, Natalie Prye was fourth on the Captains with a time of 24:07. Samantha Dickerson (24:25), Abby Snyder (24:27), and Kiara Sprowls (24:39) rounded out the top-seven.

Christopher Newport will continue action this weekend when the Captains take part in the Don Cathcart Invitational on Saturday. Next week, the squad will make its home debut with the CNU Invitational at Lee Hall Mansion.
