SALISBURY, Md. -- Riding a three-game winning streak, the Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will travel to No. 6 Salisbury on Tuesday for a Capital Athletic Conference clash beginning at 5 p.m. at Sea Gull Stadium.
CNU enters the contest with a 7-5 record, including a 3-1 mark in the CAC. The Captains are currently tied for third in the league standings, while the Sea Gulls sit atop the conference with a 9-2 record and a 5-0 mark against CAC foes. Tuesday's contest will mark the 14th all-time meeting between the two programs with SU holding a 13-0 record against Christopher Newport.

The Captains come into the contest on a three-game roll, including a 19-10 victory over Lynchburg on Saturday during their final non-conference bout of the season. Against the Hornets,
Meaghan Galvin came through with a career-high six goals and eight points, while
Erin Callahan also scored five times for CNU. On the defensive end,
Lindsay Weaver caused a pair of turnovers and
Hanna Slough made six saves to earn the victory.
So far this season, Christopher Newport ranks 38th in the NCAA and second in the conference with a 14.00 goals-per-game average. The squad is also averaging 13.67 draw controls per contest, which places the team among the top-50 nationally and at the top of the CAC leaderboard.
On an individual level, Galvin has put together a spectacular sophomore campaign. She enters Tuesday ranked second in the CAC with 35 goals and 48 draw controls. Her 52 points also place her 30th in the country. Callahan, a fellow second-year standout, also ranks among the league leaders with 25 goals and 35 points, including 11 in her last two outings.
The Captains have also received big contributions from their first-year competitors.
Catie Chess leads the way with 31 goals, which is eight more than any other freshman in the conference.
Carly Wilson and
Colleen Bourgal also have double-digit goal totals, while
Tess D'Arcy is third on the team with 13 caused turnovers.
Anchoring the veteran portion of the roster, junior
Hanna Slough has compiled a .421 save percentage and a 10.17 goals-against-average.
Kirsten Mendelsohn also leads the team with 15 caused turnovers, while
Kylie Chaplin sits third on the squad with 39 points.
Salisbury comes into Tuesday riding an eight-game winning streak, including three victories over top-15 opponents. In their last outing, the Sea Gulls upended Frostburg State, 17-2, behind a seven-point outburst from Kate Haker. Overall this season, Haker leads SU with 37 points, while Megan Wallenhorst is second with 33. Gianna Falcone has led the way between the pipes with a .571 save percentage and a 5.06 goals-against-average.
Following Tuesday's battle, Christopher Newport will return home for a 4 p.m. match-up with Marymount on Saturday. Prior to the game, the Captains will hold their annual Senior Day festivities.
