Complete ResultsASHLAND, Va. -- With a final card adding up to 29-over par, the Christopher Newport golf team edged out Franklin & Marshall by one stroke to capture the 2015 Ted Keller Memorial championship on Tuesday. The Captains fired a second round 296 to hang on and pick up their second win of the fall season.
Franklin & Marshall's Brad Lankler was the individual medalist for the Diplomats, who finished with a two-day total of 590 (296-294) as a team. The Captains defeated Franklin & Marshall, and the rest of the 17-team field by shooting a 589 (293-296).
CNU was led on the second day by senior
Sam Robinson, who fired a one-over 71. He climbed up the leaderboard to finish in eighth place after a two-day total of 148 (+8). Fellow senior
Matt DiSalvo (+4) wrapped up another strong tournament for the Captains, finishing with a team-best 144. DiSalvo fired an Even par 70 on day one and added a 74 (+4) in the second round. The senior finished in a tie for third on the individual leaderboard.
The second best round of the day for CNU came from junior
Charlie Peavley. The Captains third-year player from Culpeper, Va. carded a season-best 73 (+3) and moved his way up to a tie for 25th on the individual leaderboard. His two day line of 81-73 saw him finish with a two-day 154. Rounding out the scoring for CNU was rookie
David Rabil, who followed up his opening round 68 with a 78 in the second 18 holes. Rabil finished tied for fifth overall with a six-over 146.
Rounding out CNU's five starters at the Ted Keller Memorial was rookie
Joey Corlett, tied for 40th. Corlett went 78-80 for a two-day total of 158 (+18).
The win marks the 11th tournament victory under head coach
Jamie Coleman, which includes three conference championships in his eighth season at the helm. This week's trip was the first appearance in the Ted Keller Memorial since 2010 where the Captains finished third.
