Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
YORK, PA.- A nine-day break didn't slow down Christopher Newport's momentum. The CNU softball squad, ranked 15th in the country, swept a Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader Tuesday at York College. The Captains won the opener, 8-1, and took the nightcap, 4-1.

Keith Parr's squad is now 19-5 overall and 3-1 in the CAC. The Captains had not played since March 22nd due to weather conditions that forced several postponements.

Sophomore starter Krista Lewis improved to 11-2 on the season by allowing just one run and scattering six hits in five innings of work in the first game. Freshman Makayla Jenkins pitched the final two innings to wrap up the victory.

The Captains jumped to an early lead by scoring two times in the top of the first inning. Senior Kristina McLaughlin and sophomore Alexis Pope each drove in runs with first inning doubles.

CNU added two more on freshman Karlee Holzbach's third home run of the season in the fourth inning. Holzbach, who now leads the Captains with a .407 batting average, drove in two more runs with a double in a three-run fifth inning. Holzbach posted three hits and knocked in four runs in game one.

Christopher Newport added a run in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly from sophomore Tori Clarke and then concluded the scoring with a run in the seventh thanks to a pinch-hit double from freshman Jenna Sprinkle to make the final 8-1.

In the second game, sophomore Hanah Marshall provided more great pitching, allowing no earned runs in six innings of work. Marshall gave up five hits and struck out three while improving her record to 7-3. Freshman Makayla Jenkins again finished up, earning her second save of the season.

The Spartans plated an unearned run in the bottom of the first inning to grab their only lead of the day. CNU responded with a second-inning run to even the game, thanks to an RBI single from senior Taylor Dillow.

The Captains took control of game two with three runs in the fifth inning to break the 1-1 tie and provide the final margin of 4-1. Kristina McLaughlin drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, junior Sabrina Hill blasted her seventh home run of the season, and Tori Clarke doubled home a run to account for the Captains scoring.

Holzbach had two more hits in four trips to the plate in the nightcap to finish the twin bill with five hits in eight at bats...raising her average to .407.

CNU posted 12 runs on 22 hits in the pair of triumphs.

York falls to 8-12 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

Christopher Newport will continue a very busy week on Wednesday with another Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader. CNU will play at Penn State Harrisburg with the first game set for a 2:00 p.m. start.
