RALEIGH, NC- The 21st-ranked Captains of Christopher Newport University plated 21 runs and swept a doubleheader Thursday, beating William Peace University twice to run their winning streak to 12 straight games. The Captains won the opener, 7-0, and took the nightcap, 14-4.
CNU is now 13-3 and will host Roanoke for two games Saturday at Captains Park.
Junior first baseman
Sabrina Hill led the way for the Captains with five hits in the twin bill. Hill crushed two home runs and knocked in three runs in the opener. She followed with three hits in the second game, including a double and triple. and drove in three more runs. Hill now has four home runs on the season.
Sophomore starting pitcher
Krista Lewis threw four scoreless innings in the opener to earn the victory. She is now 8-1 on the season.
Sophomore starter
Hanah Marshall threw five innings in the nighcap to pick up the win. She is now 5-2 on the year.
The Captains erupted for 21 runs on 25 hits in the doubleheader.
William Peace falls to 8-14 with the defeats.
CNU's Saturday doubleheader with Roanoke will begin at 1 p.m. at Captains Park, where the Captains are 8-0 this season.
