INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- For the second straight year, the resume was strong enough for the Christopher Newport University women's soccer team to earn an at-large berth into the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship Tournament. The Captains will take on Stevenson University (10-5-5) in a first round matchup hosted by Lynchburg College in the opening weekend pod.
Game days, times and ticket information will be determined by the 2nd-ranked Hornets and will be released later on the CNUsports.com women's soccer schedule.
CNU (12-3-4) will be making its eighth appearance in the NCAA Tournament and second straight under head coach
Dan Weiler. It is the second time in as many years that the NCAA awarded CNU an at-large berth. The Captains will take on a Mustangs squad making their fourth NCAA Tournament appearance, riding a nine-game unbeaten streak into the first round. Stevenson captured the Commonwealth Conference's automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament with a shootout victory over top-ranked Messiah College in the league title game.
The Hornets host Salem College (NC) in the other first round matchup on Shellenberger Field. The two advancing teams will then face off on the next day, with the winner moving on to the Round of 16.
